Hello.
I'm wondering if anyone has ever observed/experienced motor tics...and if they have any thoughts as to possible correlation to prolonged undiagnosed CD?

Our child was diagnosed with CD and insulin-dep diabetes at age 6. He has exhibited bizarre and repetitive "habits" since I can remember (before age 5). For example, clicking of the mouth, grinding of the teeth, snorting of the nose, sniffling without cause, shaking of the total body, etc. When a habit has disappeared over time, a new habit always replaced it. Our pediatrician (great guy) believes these are harmless motor tics, common to young children. I tend to agree. Nevertheless, the prolonged pattern of these behaviors is somewhat unsettling. We will be seeing a neurologist in the future to rule out Tourette's, but this is only for reassurance since neither the pediatrician nor we parents believe this child to have the full pattern of symptoms more commonly associated with Tourette's.

His CD symptoms were solely behavioral - extreme inflexibility, irritability, sensitivity to sound and chaos around him, aggression. He suffered from social isolation and rejection from peers and adults due his behaviors. These symptoms slowly disappeared following diagnosis with CD and implementation of the GFD. After two years of living GF, the symptoms were entirely gone. I'm curious as to whether possible neurological damage resulting from the pre-diagnosis (of CD) days could be the cause of "motor tics". It certainly seems to have been the cause of his other behavioral symptoms.

Thanks for your thoughts,
Teresa
