I wanted to add my experience. Based on the advice of people to take veratrum album if gluten was accidentally ingested, I was taking it whenever that happened. At first it was not an issue, it stopped my symptoms of diarrhea, etc. However, one time I ended up taking it for several days because my problem didn't seem to be going away. I probably took 2 pills a day for 3 days. Well, the following day, my heart started beating like mad and I felt horrible, so I went to a local family doctor that I see for occasional illnesses. It turned out my blood pressure was way high. I have always had perfect blood pressure. It took a few days for my blood pressure to come down. I kept racking my brain what I could have done or taken to cause the problem. I consulted with my celiac functional medicine doctor. Finally I remembered a post from a veterinarian on the listserv cautioning people about using veratrum album, based on her experience with animals ingesting the plant. I knew that had to be the cause to my blood pressure. I contacted my celiac functional medicine doctor and she agreed that was the cause. She said that effect of plants can be very unpredictable. So, I would not agree at all with the folks who say use it your heart's content. I will never take it again.
