The British traveler intent on traveling cross country on Amtrak did get a
response from Amtrak and was provided a direct link to a copy of their menu...
"I have had a useful e-mail dialogue with Amtrak Customer Service and have
now been able to view the Amtrak menus on their website. (
http://www.amtrak.com/pdf/Dining_Car_Menu.r5.pdf) "
He had better luck than I did. I had written Amtrak on his behalf and am
still awaiting a reply. After much searching on the Amtrak website, I was
finally able to find the link he was given...
It is not easy to find... After trying a variety of words, a Search for
"dining car menu" at www.amtrak.com popped up several options. (Unfortunately, you
will have to try that yourself since the link to that search doen't work off
that page...)
The link to the .pdf of the menu is buried in the 2nd Article under "News
Releases" ...and is dated April 2003...
At the very least, I imagine prices have increased...
These meals would only be available in trains with dining car service and
possilbly only during specific times. (On my first & only train trip from
Milwaukee to Indianapolis, I do remember an announcement that "The dining car is now
open.")
Basically as before, good luck & plan to carry backup food, as per usual.
