I was able to reach David Hamilton by phone, to thank him for his
excellent article.

  I also wanted to  bring his attention to his statement " While celiac
disease is rarely fatal,......" This hopefully this may  be true of
those who have been diagnosed early, but it may not be true of those
who had not been diagnosed until later in their lives and lived sick,
with out a  diagnosis,  with inflamed intestines long enough to develop
refractory sprue and/or enteropathy associated T Cell Lymphoma. How
many of the failure to thrive infants who died , soldiers,  who never
healed, or our grandparents who died of some mysterious stomach
ailment, may have had undiagnosed celiac disease? Until we have celiac
registries which can follow people over time which can supply  autopsy
findings  to appropriate researchers can we really understand the  long
term risks.

He mentioned that he was  aware of some of these and that he was
planning a second article.
