Hi everyone,
I still owe you a summary on a different subject, but I really need some
advice. My 3-y-o son and I have celiac. I had another baby boy last May and
I waited until last week to introduce baby cereal with gluten in it. He will
be 6 months old on the 10th (in 4 days). We started cereal at about 5 months
of age and started with just rice. Then I moved to rice and oatmeal mixed
together, then just oatmeal. He seemed to tolerate the oatmeal. I wanted to
slowly add gluten to his diet. Then in the past week I have been giving him
"Mixed" grain and he has been a little crankier and his stools are more
loose. He is also teething big time so it's hard to say. His tummy seems a
bit bloated too however, and he's not sleeping like he used to. Again - he's
teething so it's hard to tell what's going on.
A recent article said to introduce gluten around 4-6 months of age, and it
said the chance of celiac went up again if you waited past the 6 month mark.
That's why I felt I should expose him. My question is. How long do I have to
expose him? Since he seems to be not agreeing with something, should I
immediately remove gluten and maybe try again at a later date? Do you think
a week's worth of gluten is enough exposure?
My gut feeling is that I should remove the cereal and just put him on a GF
diet with the rest of us. My husband is the only one who isn't GF (although
in my opinion he should be).
What do you think?
I promise to summarize this week. My little guy is being baptized today so
life is crazy right now. Thanks so much!
Chris
