Thanks to everyone who responded, this sure is a knowledgeable group. Here is a summary of my responses:
- I am pretty sure that certain food additives will give me that response, but, for me, it is clearly different than a gluten reaction.
- I could have written your e mail! My left side too. Singulair has helped me a lot. It works differently from traditional antihistamines.
- I used to have post nasal drip all the time when I was consuming gluten (prior to being diagnosed). As I eat out now and again, I will occasionally get post nasal drip and I know that I have eaten something I shouldn't have (or cross-contamination).I don't know if it's related to Celiac, but my 2 aunts who are Celiac have the same problem.
- It could be just another symptom to add to the long list of celiac symptoms, but I've never read anything
that suggests so. Yes, I have had bouts of PND my whole life, and it is nowhere near as prevalent now that I'm GF
& diagnosed (last 2 years).
- I am a Speech Professor. You get a post nasal drip from breathing in irritants OR from cow's milk. To get rid of it...get Simply Saline nasal spray. spray 3x in each nostril and then blow your nose. do that 3x and then gargle with a solution of 1/2 teas sea salt and 8 oz warm water. If your drip is really bad do this
every 15 min for 2 hours to clean out your sinuses, where your problem lies. After 2 hours cut it back to every half hour or so as needed. You need to
keep something in mouth...I recommend Ricolla Yellow to make the mucous go down to your stomach, rather than to your lungs which will result in either
laryngitis or bronchitis.
- I had a ton of sinus congestion/ PND for most of my life & it didn't clear up after going GF. I use Flonase once in a while & it helps tremendously.
- Possibility of a deviated septum was mentioned several times. Also, several folks said they had the same thing and also in the left nostril.
- I wonder if you are reacting to a different food "allergy", like MSG or something. I've never had post nasal drip that I can attribute to celiac
disease
More will follow.
