I just found this on the web.  The following is a free, very informative
dissertation on how the innate immune system defends the intestinal
mucosa.  It includes a discussion of the rod-shaped bacteria found
associated with celiac disease in children (published recently in the
American Journal of Gastroenterology), a study in which Anna Fahlgren, the
author of this dissertation, participated (see pages 46-47 of the
dissertation.)
