Hello, I received two helpful e-mails regarding gf restaurants in the
Redwood City, CA area. For those of you who may visit from other states, RWC is
south of San Francisco, and it would be not too far to travel. Following are
the suggestions I received, followed by my restaurant experience, which was
positive! Since there were only two responses, I am providing most of their
suggestions below (with some editing for brevity).

From Kelly: City Pub on Broadway has always made my 3 year old son a plain
chicken breast or hamburger patty (in a separate pan) and steamed vegis.
Max's on El Camino has been very accomodating.
Milagros is a fabulous Mexican restaurant in Redwood City that makes
everything from scratch. They are located on Jefferson and Middlefield near the main
library.
There is also a restaurant in San Mateo that has a "suggested GF menu." I
believe the owner's daughter has celiac. The name of the restaurant is First
Watch. It is a breakfast type restaurant.

From Mildie:
In Redwood City, there's a Chevy's, their guacamole, homemade corn chips and
fritatas (sp) are terrific.
In Menlo Park, one block off El Camino and onto its main street, Santa Cruz
Ave, there's an alley - the first right turn off Santa Cruz Ave and past the
parking lot, there's a great little Italian hole in the wall called Trattoria
Gusto or something like that. It's run by two women, and they and the
waiters are knowledgeable about what I need.
In Palo Alto, on University Ave., next door to Borders bookstore, there's
another little Italian place run by a "mom and pop", and wonderful food. I
always pick their roasted chicken with spinach and roasted potatoes/or/polenta.
(Mildie also recommended Max's in RWC. "Their low carb menu is helpful, but
always good to ask. Tell them to leave out the salad dressings and ask for
oil and vinegar.")

My experience: We spent only one night in RWC, and very much enjoyed our
visit to Milagros! First, I liked the decor -- rustic and authentic looking
Spanish or Mexican. The chips were very tasty, and I also ordered a corn
chowder and corn bread, which I had been longing for (and was assured contained no
wheat.) I did not eat a big meal, but I am sure their other corn-based
choices would be equally good. My son (non celiac) enjoyed his meal which did
include flour-based foods. The waitress was also accommodating and very
pleasant.
