I found a cereal in the market the other day that looked good, and was
potentially GF, so I decided to ask about its status. It is called
Kashi Cranberry Sunshine, and is mostly corn flakes with cranberries,
but there is no wheat listed in the ingredients, so I decided to ask.
In their response, it is obvious that they don't know the difference
between corn gluten and gliadin, etc. However, they do mention a
possibility of wheat contamination from other products processed on the
same line, so I guess it's out. Just thought I'd pass along the info to
others. Their website is www.kashi.com.

Hello Linda:
Thank you for your recent inquiry about whether or not Organic Promise
Cranberry Sunshine contains gluten.
First, we are using a special variety of corn in Cranberry Sunshine
called
Waxy Corn. It is not the same kind of Dent Corn that is commonly ground
into flour or meal to make other corn flake cereals. In addition, each
corn flake in Cranberry Sunshine is a whole kernel of waxy corn that's
been rolled and toasted.
In order to accurately provide information to our consumers, we went
directly to the growers of our corn to answer the gluten question
specifically. According to them, whole waxy corn does contain some corn
gluten.
In addition, Organic Promise Cranberry Sunshine is produced on a line
with
other products that do contain wheat; which does contain gluten.
We hope this information helps you to decide whether or not this cereal
is
appropriate for your diet.
Thanks again for your interest in Kashi Organic Promise Cranberry
Sunshine.
Again, thank you for contacting us; we appreciate your interest in our
company and products.
Best of health,
Mark Mauer
