Just wanted to share with you the info I got today from Diabetes Interview
in their online weekly newsletteer:

New Method for Detecting Predisposition to Celiac Disease

PerkinElmer, Inc., of Boston, Massachusetts, has developed a test that
ascertains an individual's susceptibility to celiac disease.

The DELFIA Celiac Disease Hybridization test "provides ... clinicians
[with] a new tool to exclude patients with gastric conditions who do not
have celiac disease," says a news release from the company. "It also is an
excellent aid in defining predisposition to celiac disease for the first-
degree relatives of confirmed celiac patients."

The release notes that use of the DELFIA test might be able to reduce the
need for biopsy in diagnosing celiac disease.

Celiac is an autoimmune disorder that results in sensitivity to gluten, a
substance found in wheat, rye and barley. If untreated, this condition
keeps the body from absorbing needed vitamins and minerals and can result
in malnourishment. People with type 1 diabetes are more at risk for celiac
disease than the general population.

For more information about DELFIA, log on to www.PerkinElmer.com.

Looks like CD awareness keeps getting better!
