Dear Listmates -
What a wonderful group!
I got dozens of responses on this.

Except for one person, who said she would not want to breathe in the
air around the turtle tank, everyone said that the pellets are solids and
the dissolved pellets would not evaporate.  Only the water would.

One very helpful listmate gave me a  link to an article on Reeve's turtles,
and it has a list of what Reeve's turtles will eat.  We are going to try
giving
our turtle some of those foods instead of pelleted feed.  They are things
like fruit, cooked chicken, and mealworms.
