Dear Listmates -
Thank you for all the great responses!
I got many emails that Robitussin and Luden's are GF.
Some people have even called the manufacturers.
One listmate contacted Celestial Seasonings about their cough drops.
They use GF ingredients, but do not test for gluten. Both her daughter and
another listmate have used the Celestial Seasonings cough drops with no
problem.
I haven't seen the Celestial Seasonings cough drops here, unless they
are at health food stores. Haven't looked for them.
I ended up buying Luden's Black Cherry (not the same as the Wild
Cherry), and
Robitussin extra strength menthol/eucalyptus. I need to clear my
sinuses, sooth my
throat, etc. Stuffy nose. The Luden's Black Cherry has
menthol/eucalyptus in it, too.
One listmate said Hal's sugar-free are GF and one had written to Ricola
and said Ricola are GF, but I've seen questions on this list before
about the kind of starch those two brands use, so I'll go with Luden's
and Robitussin. One said Hy-Vee cough drops are gluten-free, but there
are no Hy-Vee stores in the South Suburbs of Chicago that I know of.
One listmate recommended Get Better Bear Pops. At health food stores?
Another listmate, a speech professional, said GF peppermint hard candy -
or any GF hard candy - would help saliva production and help keep
post-nasal drip from going to the lungs, but I wanted the
menthol/eucalyptus action of a cough drop.
For throat drops, one listmate said Nature Made has good throat drops
(probably available at Walgreens) and says gluten-free right on the box.
One listmate suggested just taking lemon juice in some GF honey.
Another listmate uses slices of licorice root to sooth the throat.
Whew! Lots of replies! Thank you, one and all. With the cough drops, I
slept well last night.
Vicki
