Hello!

For those in Lake County, Illinois:

Last week, my husband and I went to Tony's Paisans
Restaurant at the corner of Washington Street and
Route 21 in Gurnee.  It's an Italian place with a
rather upscale menu.  Everything a la carte.

When I explained my dietary needs and asked the
waitress to help me decide what was safe, she asked if
I was gluten intolerant.  (I had expressed my concern
only over whether flour was in a particular sauce and
not said celiac or gluten.)  Not only that, but she
was a trainee, accompanied by a more experience
waiter, and he knew about gluten intolerance also.

They were very nice and said they would do whatever
was necessary for me to dine there.  I had a great
salad with an kalamata olive dressing, followed by
grilled salmon (sans the flour dredging) on herbed
mashed potatoes with a pommery sauce (no gluten used
to thicken).  The waiter recommended a great white
wine.  Yum.

There were at least 3 other things on the menu that I
could have eaten also.  I have often found waiters who
are cooperative about getting the answers to my
questions, but rarely find one who knows about gluten
intolerance.  Try it out, Lake County celiacs.
