This week in San Antonio we have a winning combination: our ever popular
Winter Pot Luck to tickle your palate and noted author Danna Korn to
speak to us about "Living -- and Loving -- the Gluten-Free Lifestyle".
Join us on Thursday, 20 February, in the Kitchen area at Covenant
Presbyterian Church at 6 pm for great gluten-free food, followed by
Danna's lively and informed take on making the gluten-free diet work for
you or the celiac in your family at 7 pm. Although we hope you will be
able to attend both pot luck and talk, if your schedule does not permit
you to make the supper, do come and hear Danna if you possibly can.
Those who have been to one of our pot lucks before know that you can't
beat them for a tempting variety of delicious gluten-free dishes. It's
heavenly to be able to choose freely from the gluten-free salads,
entrees, vegetables, breads, and desserts brought by attendees without
worrying about hidden gluten. Don't worry about what to bring; if it is
a favorite of yours, your fellow celiacs will also like it!
We will have the church gym set up with plenty of seats for everyone who
comes to hear Danna, whose son Tyler was diagnosed with celiac disease
in 1991. Danna accepted Tyler's celiac disease as a challenge. Her
experiences led her to write two books that no celiac parent should be
without: Wheat-Free, Worry-Free: The Art of Happy, Healthy, Gluten-Free
Living (Hay House, 2002), and Kids with Celiac Disease: A Family Guide
to Raising Happy, Healthy, Gluten-Free Children (Woodbine House, 2001).
This is a session not to be missed!
Along with your gluten-free dish for the pot luck, please bring a list
of the ingredients to place by your dish or plate. Some people also have
other sensitivities or allergies -- and who better than we can
understand their need to check for things they have to avoid!
If your recipe is original or modified with at least 3 changes to make
it gluten free, bring a copy of the recipe and give it to me, or just
e-mail it to me for sharing with everyone on the Recipes page of our
newsletter.
Please note that due to road construction, the usual approach to the
church is blocked. Fortunately, it is still quite easy to get to
Covenant Presbyterian Church, 211 Roleto Drive. As you proceed west from
Blanco Road on the I410 access road, take the turn to the right onto
Northwest Military Highway. At the first traffic light, turn left onto
Lemonwood, then left again onto Roleto. The church will be on your
right. Enter the church through the door at the southwest corner of the
parking lot, close to the sanctuary; this will lead directly to the
kitchen area.
