I've read the archives, but still am not sure how to interpret the results
of my Antigliadin Antibody Panel and would appreciate some expert help.
The test was performed march 1, 2002 at Quest Labs in Seattle, WA.
Gliadin AB IGA 19 UNITS
Gliadin AB IGG 88 H UNITS
<20 UNITS NEGATIVE
20-30 UNITS WEAK POSITIVE
>30 UNITS POSITIVE
1) Do these results imply that I am among the 2-4% of IgA deficient Celiacs?
2) As I understand, the reason for the IgG test is in case someone is IgA
deficient. According to the archives, the IgG test is 91% specific and 87%
sensitive. Meaning a positive result will show up in 87% of people with
Celiac disease, but only 91% of the positive results are truly indicative of
Celiac disease. If I read this correctly, there is at least a 91% chance I
have celiac disease (?).
3) Assuming I do have celiac disease, does the low IgA reading suggest that
I am less prone to intestinal damage? Indeed, my symptoms are not
(noticeably) gastro-intestinal, but itchy skin, perhaps DH. However,
Claritin takes care of all itching.
4) What does the H mean?
Thanks.
Cheers,
Steve
