Most of you won't remember my original post since it was sent on the
morning of Sept. 11. I did get some replies over the following week,
however. Thank you to all who replied. I was trying to determine if my
reaction to some granola I had made was due to the puffed millet or
cross contamination. I asked:
Have any of you had a gluten reaction to Arrowhead Mills puffed rice or
millet?
Do any of you have trouble with millet and what kind of reaction do you = get?
2 people said millet was not safe for celiacs. (That's a separate
issue. Personally I believe it is gluten free but that we could have
trouble tolerating it.)
4 people said that cross contamination with Arrowhead Mills is a problem
5 definite and 2 possible people have had trouble with millet.
Reactions were similar to gluten reactions.
2 people had trouble with Arrowhead Mills puffed rice
1 had no problem with the puffed rice
There were a few other suggestions such as rice intolerand and too much
fiber in the granola.
I did try the granola again without the millet. I did not get the 1/2
hour reaction time as I did before, but I had a 12 hour reaction time
and I'm pretty sure it wasn't caused by anything else. That leads me to
wonder if I was dealing with both a millet intolerance and cross
contamination. At this point I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired
so I'm not going to experiment any more for a while. The rest of my
family loves the granola, though, and I'm happy to give them a snack
that is almost completely gluten free.
