First off, I'd like to thank everyone for taking part in this list. It has
really been helpful for me, in figuring out how to make the best of my
situation. I've seen several messages asking for help with diagnosing
someone as Celiac vs. Not Celiac, and after months of flailing arounding
trying to figure this out on my own, I guess it's my turn to ask for help.

I came down with a case of nausea in June of last year, and have been queasy
ever since. The doctors did the usual stuff... endoscopy, ulcer treatments,
candida treatments, ultrasound, even a CT scan of my brain, trying to figure
out why I always felt nauseous. I experimented with food, trying to
determine if I was sensitive to something. My conclusion: I have a
sensitivity to gluten, as well as dairy, soy, vegetable oils, and caffeine.
So it seems that I'm Celiac, though I seldom had diarhea, gas, or any of the
other nasty symptoms that I've read about.

I'm currently taking Zantac, Propulsid, and Pepto Bismol (at night only),
and I've been able to make modest improvements. But I still feel queasy a
lot, especially during times of stress. I have lost a lot of weight, and
even though I stuff myself with food I can't seem to gain anything back (I'm
male, 5'8" and 140 pounds). The good news is that I sleep most of the night
now, whereas I used to sit up all night feeling lousy. Without Pepto Bismol
to help me sleep I'd be in really bad shape... if it wasn't for that
wonderful pink goo I'd have been fired from my job months ago, for sleeping
at my desk!

Unfortunately, I was gluten-free for too long before finding a doctor who
was willing to test me for Celiac, so I'm not diagnosed as Celiac at this
point. But I am probably Celiac, and am confident that I have cut out ALL
gluten from my diet, as well as the other bad foods.

But my main concern now is how to get rid of this darned nausea. I suppose
that this is what they call GERD (acid reflux), or dyspepsia. What I want
to know is... HOW LONG DOES IT LAST? I'm doing all of the stuff that
someone with acid reflux is supposed to do... I don't eat before bedtime, I
sleep with my head propped up, yadda yadda. But it's taking forever to get
over this.

My questions:

1. Is it possible that I have something else, something beside Celiac and
acid reflux? I've scoured the net looking for answers, but if you have any
suggestions at all, PLEASE enlighten me!

2. If you had acid reflux when you were diagnosed with (or discovered that
you had) Celiac, how long did the recovery take? Is a full recovery even
possible?

3. Has anyone ever needed gastro surgery to get over this? I'm starting to
wonder if something is "broken".

Any and all responses will be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to
summarize the responses, in case this could help someone else out there.

thanks,
Patrick Madigan
