Not really! This issue is one of quality of life vs. quantity.

For me, the prime motivation for a healthful diet isn't how long I will
live, it's how well I will feel throughout my life, and the condition I will
be in at the end. To go through life feeling unenergetic, tired, unable to
concentrate, and wracked with health problems simply because one can't be
bothered to eat properly will rob that person of the chance to live his/her
life to the fullest. Not to mention cost a fortune.

And of course, there are other things besides a good diet that prolong life.
It's not just a matter of taking vitamins and being a "health nut." If he
was "wound tight", that suggests stress and unresolved emotional issues,
which heavily affect one's health. I think the key is proper balance in all
aspects of life -- physical, emotional, spiritual.
