Video cards that use 24 bit color use two cycles to get the information, a 16 bit pass and a 8 bit pass. Vidoe cards with 32 bit color also allows a 32 bit pass, allowing the information to show up in one cycle, an approximately 100% increase in speed (it really isn't that much, as the video card has to strip 8 bits of each data string, but there is an increase in speed.)
