Could be a multitude of things. First, which version of Win95 did you install, Retail, OEM SR1 (95A) OEM SR2 (95b)? The modem situation may be fixed with two updates form M$ , i.e. DUN 1.3 and Winsock update (forget the newest version but I think it is 2). Second since you installed over an existing older system, this causes many problems, e.g. (as you have found out) slowness, reg problems, uninstall problems, etc. ad nauseum. Best to Fdisk/format and start clean. Then install you programs.
