<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Dear List, Here is a summary in response to my question about gf friendly places in Seattle. Maybe those in the area will make new discoveries, or be reminded of places, and hopefully this will make it to the archives to help someone else!! Many recommended the PCC markets. Someone pointed out to me that August, Georgia is also called the 'Emerald City', which I wasn't aware of. Thanks, and happy shopping! Saskia to be Seattleite (sp?) One great place is Puget Consumers Co-op (PCC Natural Markets). There are a couple of stores reasonably close to where you will be living. You may also want to check out Trader Joe's. I don't believe there is one really close, however, they not only stock quite a few GF items, but also publish a list specially for GF. You will be living pretty close to the International District where there are numerous Asian markets. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I shop at a health food store in Federal WAy called Marlenes. Also at Trader Joes-they have gf food as well. Lots of Asian stores where rice noodles are available as well as other ricey things. %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% I live in the center of the state, Saskia. But I know there's a Trader Joe's in Issaquaw in the mall across the street from IHOP. North side of I-90. Seattle also has one of the oldest and best Gluten Intolerance Groups in the country. It's a city that eats much healthier than much of the rest of the country, so it makes it a lot easier here. If you will want a doc, here's the one the GIG recommended to me, and I thought he was a good one, and open minded: Dr. Richard H. Driscoll Jr. (gastroenterologist) 515 Monor Suite 200 Seattle, Wa 98104-2138 PH: 206 386-9500 Sorry I couldn't be of more help. But you won't find much better seafood than here. Especially salmon. If you ever get a chance to eat Copper River Salmon, take it. But it cost more than regular salmon. It's worth it. It's not the same creature to eat as the old pacific and atlantic salmon they sell most of the time in stores xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Puget Consumer's Co-op (PCC) has organic produce, vitamins, gluten free foods etc. There are a number of stores in the seattle area, including: Ravenna 6504 20th NE View Ridge 6514 40th NE Fremont 716 N 34th St. Greenlake 7504 Aurora Ave. N Those are all in Seattle. They also have stores in Seward Park, West Seattle, and Kirkland. I mostly go to the Kirkland store. Also there is supposed to be an outlet store in Seattle for Ener-G foods. I have not been there yet though. If you happen to like Ener- G bread, the Kirkland PCC has the best selection I have found of the PCC stores. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Madison Park is a great place to live! And fabulous restaurants, everything. There's a natural food store - PCC (Puget Consumers Coop) just north of the U district on Roosevelt. QFC (huge upscale grocery store) in U Village that has lots of gf stuff throughout the store. Lots of HFS's around too. You will love it! @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ I tend to rely on the PCC (Puget Sound Consumer's Co-op) stores that are scattered around town. There's one on 65th, not far north of the University Village $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Ener-G Foods is a wonderful source for flours and needs and they are right downtown where First Ave runs into Michigan kinda. I also find cereals and other packaged items at Larry's Market in Kirkland and lesser so at Queen Anne Thriftway up on Queen Anne hill. I have never had a problem at any of the restaurants in Seattle. Most upscale restaurants are very helpful to prep my food to be GF. Fast food and chain mid-range restaurants of course are more challenging. As an owner of several Dairy Queens I will share with you that DQ softserve (choc., Vanilla, and yogurt) is GF, but the french fries are NOT. The steak strips themselves and the A-1 sauce served with them are GF; the hamburger patties are GF too. You might want to consider joining the Gluten Intolerance Group of Seattle (GIG) which meets in Bothel the 3rd Thursday of each month. They would have more specifics.
