True.  However, we as modern man seldom bleed.  It is quite possible that
this explains the recent findings that most men have too much iron in their
blood.  It is now considered a good idea for men to donate blood
occasionally to reduce their iron levels.

Why is it ridiculous to consider that short periods without food could be
required for optimum health if that is what our body evolved to expect.  If
research shows that fasting has health benefits, then I would argue that it
is a very important part of a Paleolithic eating style.
