<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Thanks to all who replied to my question about microwave popcorn, there were replies stating that the following brands are GF: Orville Redenbacker is GF (3 replies), Pop Weaver is GF (2 replies), Jolly Time (1) Act II (1) Some others (not confirmed) Here are the response summaries: Bearitos microwave popcorn has no oils, no salt, nothing except popcorn kernels. I like it a lot better than most because you can add your own butter and it is more like homemade, yet has the convenience of the microwave. I have not confirmed with the company though but it only has popcorn kernels so I assume it is ok. ~~~~~~~ I contacted Pop Weaver some time ago and was told that their microwave popcorns are gluten free. I assume they still are. It are available at WalMart and very inexpensive. ~~~~~~~ I imagine the organic microwave popcorn Walnut Acres sells must be GF -- all it contains is popcorn, no oil or salt. At least the older version they sold was like that, they might have oil in the newer version. You can check their web site at www.walnutacres.com to find a phone number or e-mail to ask them about it. It's really good -- you can add your own oil and salt easily just by pouring into the bag after popping and shaking it (keeping it closed, of course). ~~~~~~~ I have called the companies and the following are gluten free: Pop Weaver Orville Redenbacher ~~~~~~~ Jolly time "America's Best" is G.F. I called the company back in the Fall of 1998. I have 3 celiac children. We eat it all the time and no one has ever had any problems. We love our popcorn! ~~~~~~~ We eat Act II popcorn. They send me a letter stating that, "Act II products do not contain any of the following additives: gluten, soy, MSG, peanut, nut, yeast, or protein hyrolysates. Specific products may contain small amounts of dairy, or milk derivatives. The food starch used is corn based. The french fries do not contain any of the above ingredients." I buy it by the case at Costco. If you want to call them, their 800 number is, 800/328-6286. The lady that wrote to me was Elizabeth Kamman, Consumer Response Supervisor. ~~~~~~~ It's not that Pop Secret necessarily ISN'T GF, it's just that General Mills policy is to guarantee nothing. You'll have to make your own call based on the ingredients (and when you're not comfortable with something like natural flavors, just avoid the product). ~~~~~~~ I eat Pop-Secret, lite butter and I am ok. I have had trouble with Orville's everything but very little with Act II, the cheap one. I can only eat micro popcorn once/twice a wk or I am in trouble. The combination of the 'butter flavor' sauce and just popcorn in general is a problem w/many 'regular' people too, so it comes as no surprise we would have a problem digesting it. ~~~~~~~ __________________________________________________________________ Trevor Ward , IC Layout Mgr.| Internet: [log in to unmask] - O Unitrode Corp. | Fax : 603-429-8564 --- /[/\_ 7 Continental Blvd. | Voice : 603-429-8525 - __/\ Merrimack, NH 03054 | - ' \,
