While I am not a plummer, pipes are measured by the inside diameter, not the
outside diameter.  2" - 3" would be correct.

My writing speed exceeded my thinking speed:) I should have said to use a 2
1/2 to 3 1/2 inch diameter PVC pipe. A 5 inch pipe would be quite a cable
tray!

What I did for my situation may be helpful to others. Take a 3 to 5 inch PVC
pipe (depends on how many cables you have) and cut a slot in it lengthwise.
