I recently purchased a Diamond Viper V550 which uses the Nvidia TNT chip.
Performance is good, and it supports a VERY wide range of display modes.
That is the good news. The bad news is that the video drivers have problems
with some 2D graphics. I am running it under Windows NT 4.0 and have not
tried it on Win95. Latest drivers from Diamond as well as Nvidia have not
helped. The date on drivers from Nvidia are back in November, so they are
not updating them very often to address the problems. Not many programs
result with this problem, but I do use several that do. Among the programs
with trouble are Thumbs Plus from www.cerious.com and HiJaak Pro 3.0
(version 4 seems ok).

I have heard that the NVIDIA RIVA TNT is a great card. 2 questions:
  1) Is this true?
  2) If not, what chipset/card do you recommend?
