There was a time when putting a fast hard drive and a slow CD Rom drive on the same IDE channel would slow down the hard drive. The current BIOS versions that have been around since the advent of Ultra DMA has fairly well removed these issues. If it were me... I would put both hard drives on the Primary and the CD Rom drives on the secondary. The master and slave issue should not really matter in this configuration.
