<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I asked: "Can you please recommend any restaurants in Las Vegas friendly to those with cd or where it's easy to buy simple food like steak and baked potatoes?" Thanks to all who responded with advice and what looks like a great list of recommended restaurants! You are very kind and supportive. And thank you to all who wished me a good fun trip. I'm more confident it will be now. Best wishes, Mara For others considering a trip to Las Vegas, here is the summary: *** A couple of posters recommended shopping at Trader Joe's in addition to Wild Oats. *** The buffet at the Luxor is exceptionally good, particularly for breakfast before 8 AM. *** We went to Ceaser's and ate at the Cheesecake Factory. My sister and her husband are vegetarians...menu is so varied and diverse, anyone could eat there AND it is delicious!!! At the Rio, there is a buffet that has many different items...for a good meal. My sister works at the Bellagio and we ate there alot...very expensive, BUT, if you stick to the appetizers you can have a good meal at a VERY accommodating restaurant. *** ...visit in Vegas a lot. I like to go to Bob's Steakhouse in Summerland, Nevada... # is (702) 454-8031. This place grills their meat...anyway you [like]. I'm sure you can find other steak houses closer...I have first hand experience with this place, and I found it less smokey than others, too. *** I took a motorhome...and ate out only once. I ate at the buffet at Circus Circus. The salad bar was a disappointment. I did have some what looked like plain meat and potatoes. All the desserts had gluten. I do not recommend that place. *** I ate an an oriental place one day while I was there and I asked what they thicken with (cornstarch) and no MSG...I was ok....ate at a buffet....a lot of eat there with a lot of salads and bake potatoes, steamed vegetables, etc...that was really good.... brought my own bread, etc. *** I hear Lawry's is awesome... best steak you'll ever have... And their seasonings are GF... so I doubt you'd have too much trouble eating there... Although I did bitch about Emerils... other listers had a great experience with the Emerils in New Orleans... it's that pesky make-a-reservation situation that allegedly made my life difficult there. warning: no baked potatoes at Emerils. I also ordered take-out from a sushi place called Sushi on Tropicana and it was awesome plus they put every single sauce on the side. *** ...we had an absolutely delicious dinner at the Rosewood Grill on the strip. Pricy, but amazingly good. Nice waiter, too. I could even eat the lobster bisque (awesome). I must warn you though that I just ask about flour and breading, I do not grill waiters about cross-contamination and the brand of their spices, so I don't know what the restaurant's reaction to that would have been. I did not get sick from the food, and I am still keeping fond memories of an amazing dinner. *** Wild Bills Resturant is in one of the hotels--very celiac friendly. *** ...if you like seafood, try the buffet at the Rio. It is a real buy - fresh shrimp, oysters on the half shell, crab leg, salads, fish cooked to order (grill) plus just about every kind of fish/vegs/potatoes/rice in the buffet line. *** I generally question the waitress (men are bad at helping out on cd) and most are very understanding and will go check in the kitchen to see if anything is made from flour. Watch "rue", used in brown and other sauces, consists of butter and flour. *** We took our celiac family member to the Golden Nugget downtown. The Garden Court restaurant (I'm not sure about the name, but it's back by the pool) could cook a chicken breast, baked potato, and I think a vegetable without gluten. Someone told us they had a dedicated deep fat fryer for french fries...turns out it ISN'T and our family member got very sick...other meals were fine. ...make sure someone from the kitchen talks to you so they go back to the kitchen and make sure the grill is clean and all that stuff. *** We stayed at the Luxor. The big hotels have the most fabulous buffets so you can pick and choose what you can eat. *** Thai Spice in Las Vegas is excellent. The Marie Callendar restaurants have steamed vegetable plates that are good and then rest of their menu appeals to normal eaters. The steak and baked potato option is good almost anywhere and the steak houses in the casinos are reasonable in price. *** I have lived in L.V. for four years- here are the places that have worked well for me. kiefers steakhouse is really help full -it is behind the old aladden- really nice place. I have had ok luck at outback steakhouse if they are not busy. I have eaten the fish at battistas's hole in the wall (in front of maxiums- across from bally's)...nice atmosphere/really cute little man that goes around and plays the accordian. eaten fish at landry's fish house on sahara ave. hahara's buffet has a lot of fresh food and they will tell you everthing that is in it or make it for you. have your sister take you to the new wild oats on rainbow and lake mead- it is really nice. smiths often has a lot of stuff too. I would think that most of the restraunts on the strip that have a chef will work with you- I have not had to many bad experiences here. ***
