I'm getting ready to do a similiar upgrade for a friend of
mine--upgrading a 486-33
so it can run Win95, etc.  They don't care too much about the speed, just
being able
to get the work done.  SIIG makes a card similiar to the Promise and DTC
cards that
you mentioned.  If you can get reliable WWW access (even if it is slow),
you could
could watch for these cards on an online auction such as WWW.EBAY.COM.
I've seen this type of card sell for less than $20 USD.  Many eBay
sellers are very
reluctant to ship outside of the US though.  Sometimes the merchandise on
eBay
is new and warrantied; sometimes it is used and sold "as-is".  However,
it is
another alternative for purchase.
