Hello all - I have a Mitsumi CD-ROM FX400D that came installed in my Acer Aspire in 1995. Over the past several months, it has picked up two annoying habits. 1) It has a tendency to make loud "thunking" noises when certain CD's are put in. I am assuming that it is encountering dirt on the CD's - sometimes cleaning them has helped. Does this sound like a reasonable assumption? One of the CD's it has the most problems with seems like it may also have a couple small scratches. Has anyone had any experiences with CD-ROM repair kits? Today, I found one at OfficeMax that seems to coat the scratches with a clear gloss, but I hesitate to try it. 2) The other problem I've noticed is that the CD's often are still spinning when I open the CD-ROM drawer. The programs are shut down - sometimes for as long as 15 minutes before I remove the CD, so this is not the problem. Does anyone have any other thoughts as to why the CD-ROM drive is not stopping the CD's from spinning when done? Thank you in advance for all of your help.
