<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I had several discussions with posters and at the CSA conference about labeling laws, shopping guides, keeping shopping guides updated and problems associated with out-of-date and regional information. I have an idea. Let me know privately if you are willing to assist and if this idea might work for you. [log in to unmask] 1. When you call a manufacturer, ask if they have a website and does it identify gluten-free products. If they do not have a website or their website does not list GF items, ask if they would consider establishing one. (Benefit to manufacturer is that they could track the number of 'hits' at the site.) 2. If they have such a website and/or an 800 number and/or an email address, send that information to me and I will start to compile it and publish it on a regular basis. (I'm working on the details of publication with a listserv owner. The ultimate form will depend on your responses.) 3. The manufacturer's website is what we should be working for -- they then have to accept responsibility for accuracy and currency. We do not have to worry about typing errors and out-of-date publications. 4. Consider that you might establish a minimum safe pantry, preferably with nationally distributed brands (ex. Hellman's, Mazzola). This would keep the list of safe foods on the small side, make it easier to do follow-ups and stay current with information. Our goal is to have a source of information about GF foods that is provided directly by the producer. This allows us to identify GF items, to obtain changes in the GF status, one way or the other, and make this information available in a timely fashion. Joanne Hameister [log in to unmask]
