<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Dear list members Thank you for all respons concerning GF food in Orlando. The following respons wew sent to me from the list server. Alo (in Israel) 1) My family will be travelling to Florida and Dinsey World, how do we accomondate GF diet restrictions? You are allowed to bring food into the parks, just use reason on the quantity and items that you bring. Just be polite and explain to the gate employee why you are bringing food into the park. Instead of carrying it around, there are two choices: Rent a locker. They are located right inside the gate. Leave it in the car and use one of the trams to return for lunch. A microwave is located in the baby changing area. Request an inroom refrigerator. This will assist in keeping your food fresh. The hotels in the park normally do not charge extra for this item. Just explain that you require it for the same reason that a diabetic would be allowed one. Service is the key word and you will find that most people are very helpful. They may not understand the GF diet, but with your help, the appropiate items can be found. Fast foods will be a problem and is why a sick down establishment is recommended. Just use this as a time for taking a break during your busy schedule. "Most of the larger buffeterias, sit-down restaurants, and larger fast food locations can prepare special menus if needed. It is suggested that you inform them prior to arrival and often the arrangements can be made in advance. Once you arrive in the park, you can ask to speak to a chef and request special preparation of an exisiting menu selection. They pledge to have a GF meal wherever you want to eat (fast food places too!). I recommend the visitors to Disney World ask to speak to to the head Chef of the Disney Properties who are very helpful. They will guide you to the most GF friendly restaurants. They are unbelievable with their help! --==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==-- Date: Mon, 1 Jun 1998 18:47:27 EDT From: Marie Steele <[log in to unmask]> Subject: UK visitor to Florida & Disney For anyone visiting the Disney parks - I e-mailed Disney: [log in to unmask] and they sent some useful telephone numbers for the chefs at the parks. You can ring them up and pre-arrange a gluten free meal, apparently they will even use gluten free flour etc if you give them enough warning. --==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==--==-- 2) - There's a Bakery/health food store in the Orlando/Winter Park area called "Clementine's". They have some gluten free stuff. -There's a health food store in Orlando called Chamberlin's Natural Foods and it's at 4960 E. Colonial Drive, in Orlando. this information was gleaned from the website: www.glutenfree.com/florida.htm -One person indicated they eat at the Outback Steakhouse in Orlando on Kirkman Road (near Universal Studios) and they order grilled steak plain (no spices), steamed vegetables and a baked potato. As for Fort Lauderdale, I only got one response...from a resident who resides in that area. That person shared that there are 2 restaurants in that county (Broward) whose chefs/owners have been educated about celiac disease and are more than willing to work with you. These places are: - Cafe Arugula in Lighthouse Point/Pompano Beach. This restaurant's chef/owner has a sister who has celiac. This place is highly recommended and they will definitely work with you to give you a pleasurable dining experience. -Pastabilities in Weston. These people will work with you and if you bring your own pasta, they will prepare a GF meal for you.
