<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi - Here is my final summary on Pgh. eating survival skills - happy trails to everyone - Laurie ***I like the strip district because there are two or three oriental markets there where I can get sweet rice flour, potato starch, etc. I shop in Butler (north of the city) at DeWalt's World of Health for mixes from the Gluten-Free Pantry and for rice pastas. DeWalt's has branches in Pittsburgh (in Ambridge and in New Brighton). If you make a trip to the Grove City Outlets (as many people visiting the Pittsburgh area do), there is a wholesale flour outlet about 1/4 mile west on route 208 (I can't remember the name of it right now). I buy my rice flour there for fifty cents a pound. The name of the flour wholesaler:Murphy's Northstar--and is only open on weekdays. ***I suggest you go to http:www.switchboard.com select Find a Business select Health & Diet Foods - retail and type in Pittsburgh PA and peruse the list of about a gazillion stores, addresses, and phone numbers of health food stores in Pittsburgh. Each entry includes a map of where to find the store. You can do the same sort of search for restaurants. ***I had a very good experience in July, when I stayed in McKeesport (southeast of the City) -... a celiac-aware health food store in Monroeville (east of the City)... The Joy of Health, we found the shop well stocked and the shopkeepers knowledgeable. They said 30-40% of their customers were celiac or at least wheat-sensitive...They had gluten-free rolls, pastas, sauces, juices, preserves, frozen bread. For the first time I was able to get the Wasa Corn Crisp crackers. By the way, the Joy of Health will fill your orders by mail (I have no financial interest in them, just gastronomic). Their address/phone: Joy of Health (Motto: We Really Want You to Have It!) Murrysview Shoppes 5036 Wm.
