<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> This is in response to Leslie's post. I don't know if this will help or not, but just last June I was diagnosed with "cough-variant asthma" or coughing asthma. I'd never heard of it before and there is not a lot of info in the WWW (my mom has the wheezing kind of asthma). I do not think there is a connection with celiac. The last two bad colds I had went straight to my chest and left me coughing and choking. After the second one the cough wouldn't go away and my chest hurt a lot. I'd cough so hard that I'd get the dry heaves, my throat felt like it was closing up, it was hard to breathe, my eyes and nose would run--not a pretty sight! We tried cough medicines and expectorants, and finally I had to go in to see the doctor who found that my lungs were clear. That's when he diagnosed the asthma. He tried a variety of meds and we've finally settled on Flonase nasal spray (for my allergies to dust and tobacco smoke), Claritin-D, and Accolate. It took about 2 months for the cough to get under control, but since August I haven't had any more "fits." Hope this helps. If you'd like any other info, don't hesitate to write. [log in to unmask]
