There are three main treatments for hyperthyroidism - drugs (to suppress its function - these are the safest) and partial removal through surgery or radioactive iodine. It would seem that if you have severe symptoms, they will advise treatment. Take the drugs for now and find out all you can. You can contact me privately for advice - I am still learning.
