<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> The resent posting on Canadian Smarties not being gf reminded me of the "Mars Bars" I found in Germany in 1982. Their Mars Bars back then are what we in the U.S. call Milky Way Dark. Milky Way Dark didn't come out in the U.S. for about 10 years after I discovered them in Germany under the name Mars. Mars Bars in the U.S. were totally, totally different from the Mars Bars in Germany. One was milk chocolate the other dark. One had almonds the other didn't. The Nuggat was also different. Yet the same company made both products and sold them in different parts of the world under the same name. This why it is extremely important to check out the product in your own country when someone in another country states that it is gluten free. It is not safe to assume gf status based on product name alone. What if someone posted a message saying the Sugar Crisps are gf (no such product). In England Sugar Crisps could be a biscuit (Cookie) in the U.S. it might be the name of a cereal. Who is to know? I would like to see more listserv members listing in their signatures where they are from. This may help. But it would also be helpful to list the type of product, whether it be cookies or cereal that you are writing about. And it would also help to list the manufacturer's name and phone number. Thanks. Just my two cents on this one. :-) Abigail, St Paul, MN ***************************************************** Celiac Disease On-Line Support Group http://www.customforum.com/celiac/ Moderated chats:Sun 10pm-12am E.T., Mon 8-10pm E.T.,Wed at 1pm E.T.
