My doctors have been thrilled, although I adjusted my fats a little when it hit 104... Now I'm concerned that the nice low numbers were a side-effect of the Celiac Sprue. Any data on that? Will my cholesterol bounce up now that my small intestine is working again? I'm expecting some small bounce up just because my dietician added fats to my diet. I'd prefer to keep it down. <snip> Hi Pat~ You did not mention what your cholesterol numbers were before CS dx. For me- sprue unchecked along w/ undiagnosed dm zinged my cholesterol out of this world. I think the intestine was dumping things wholesale into the bloodstream. Whatever it was, within a years time I went from *normal ranges* to 600+ triglycerides. YOW! It seemed to take forever to bring them back down- several months of hammering away.. The doc explained it was a domino effect. When I got the dm under control....... the other numbers began to fall into place. I was nailed by the conversion to the GF diet. The rice flour goods were just too high of a glycemic index for me. I had to cut WAY back on them. We all have different things to juggle- but in my *crash & burn* trials of what foods worked. ... I finally figured out that I needed to up the protein intake to quit getting spikes from the carb foods- it leveled out the spikes & made me not feel hungry for longer periods of time. The best thing you can do while figuring out what foods work for you, is test often to see what bg values they yield. The ones that take you too high, tend to mess up your cholesterol levels as well. You should not feel "stuck" with the same foods though. You can still do lots of whole foods & veggies. In this phase, you can test a bunch & then once you have the info you will know & not have to test *as much*. It's a good idea to re-test your cholesterol every 3-6 months to make sure it's within your target goals. ~Fran in Oregon
