This should not work. The chipset may not support two IDE channels. For example, a Promise controller with the chip 20230 looks almost exactly like the Promise controller with the chip 20630 but has the silvery points for the secondary IDE channel, because the 20230 chip does not support two IDE channels. What model Soundblaster do you have? Is it a newer model that has an IDE connector on it? Don't assume a 40 pin connector is IDE without checking the manual. Has your sound card worked with any IDE CDROM at any time? Who made the CDROM should not matter if the CDROM is IDE and the soundblaster is IDE. If the Sony CDROM works as a slave to one of your hard disks then it will work on the Soundblaster if you set the soundblaster correctly. tom turak [log in to unmask] ---------- From: Dante D. Loayza Rios Sent: Tuesday, May 12, 1998 1:01 PM I have an AST adventure 8090p computer. I want upgrade my disk space, but I have a problem. In my MoBo I have only one IDE connector, the another connector is empty (it has not the pins) and only the silvery points are there. I need that IDE connector, cause I'll have two HD and one CD-ROM (The CD-ROM can't be connected to the Sound Blaster card cause it's a SONY CD-ROM, I tried but it didn't work). I thought to get de IDE connector and solder it to the MoBo. Well,my question is: What is the risk of make this?. I can damage my MoBo? --------------------------------------------------- Dante Loayza [log in to unmask] La Paz- Bolivia
