<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi Everybody, This is a continuation of sarcoidosis replies: I had sarcoidosis shortly AFTER I was diagnosed w/ celiac. It began w/ tightness/pain in my upper back & chest, but the worst was the painful nodes on my shins & swelling in my feets which made it impossible to walk. I was treated w/ non steroid anti-inflammatory drugs. It went away, but returned briefly/milder about a year later. No problems for over 12 years. I was 33 when I started the diet after yrs of malnutrition. My hormones all readjusted--it was similar to the hormone changes in pregnancy: breast tenderness, water retention, "loose" joints. From the info I did find at the time, I attributed this surge/ readjustment of hormones to triggering the sarcoidosis. There are two types--Chronic & Acute--mine was acute & resolved itself. ****** your e-mail has taken my breath away. in 1984 i was given a tentative diagnosis of sarcoidosis, although the tests remained in http://www.albert2.com it's a medical seach engine. i know the american lung association has some info on it. happy hunting. ****** Your e-mail has taken my breath away. In 1984 I was given a tentative diagnosis of sarcoidosis, although the tests remained inconclusive. In 1987 my diagnosis was finally pinned down with a repeat bronchoscopy. The sarcoidosis was worsening some each year (not that serious, though; I never needed medicating, but I worried about it a lot). In 1989 I wanted to become pregnant and got my pulmonologist's go-ahead although he monitored my condition more frequently because pregnancy can aggravate the sarcoid. But the unexpected happened: I felt better pregnant than I had felt for years and all the lung function tests showed improvement! In the years following my daughter's birth in 1990, the sarcoidosis seemed to be receding; two years ago the pulmonologist pronounced me in remission. It seemed to my husband and to me that our child had given me the gift of good health. Now here's the connection you asked about: that same child has confirmed CD. Although we couldn't get her diagnosed until she was 3, her symptoms started at birth (failure to thrive) and got steadily worse until the small bowel biopsy which changed our lives. ****** II haven't found anything else, but 28 articles suggests a connection.
