I had the exact same problem and it wa related to the USB port upgrade (?) that you installed on your machine. The file NTKERN.VXD was one of the files that was added to your system when you added the USB support. Apparently [as with mine machine also], when you uninstalled the USB support, it left a reference in you registry file. If you are brave, and have backed-up your registry, you can do a search through you resigstry using Regedit and eliminate the reference and hope all goes well. If it doesn't, than revert to your backed-up registry. A more conservitive approach might be to reinstall the USB support and then uninstall it. I did that on my machine it worked OK.
