Jim,

The files appear to be in the locations they're supposed to be in.  The
problem is consistent with all of the different apps on the hard drive
(thus different locations for their .hlp files).  It's as if the links
to them are missing.  Ran Scandisk and Defrag with no change in the
problem.  I'm guessing the only fix is to try to re-install each
application (ugh!).
