These positions are funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, and designed to support graduate studies and research focused on developing improved information access means for individuals with disabilities. This work is to have a strong emphasis on improved access to science, engineering, and mathematical information. Projects topics to be investigated in this effort include: - Tactile imaging methods - Haptic scientific visualization - Scientific instrumentation access - Continuous view lip reading devices - Sign language video communications Prospective students should have a strong technical background. Student with Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science degrees are encouraged to apply. Students with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. In addition to conducting research and development, participants will contribute to a well rounded program, including community outreach and educational programs, designed to address the needs of individuals with disabilities planning or pursuing technical academic programs and careers.
