<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> I had asked listmates what the possible reasons for a newly diagnosed, previously in contro type 1 (insulin dependent) diabetic, to have great fluctuations in blood glucose levels. * Humalog insulin (fast acting) can be a saving grace to deal with the spikes in blood glucose caused by the high carb celiac diet. Several said Humalog was essential. * The body is now fully absorbing, and insulin doses may need be be increased to handle the change. * Some DM'ers switched to the insulin pump & that gave them more flexibility to handle the spikes. * This transition (and resulting out of control blood glucose) can take about 4 months, and may involve reducing the amount of caloric/carb intake. * Another suggested possible gastroparesis, which can be a form of diabetic neuropathy. * Also, mention was made of the liver-regulating process happening in the small intestine. That probably makes things wacky too (the liver puts out glucose as well). Thank you all for your thoughtful answers. Back to the regularly programmed juggling act..... <grin> Fran, Oregon -- mailto:[log in to unmask] Yesterdays history, Tomorrows a mystery, Today is a gift-- that's why they call it *the present*
