I read in THE SUGAR BLUES that it is actually the sugar that is toxic. The
book cites studies of people who smoke naturally cured/dried tobacco,  and
those who smoked machine dried/sugared tobacco. Those who smoked the machine
dried got much sicker, I can't remember how much the naturally dried tobacco
was harmful, but  the great majority  of the damage was coming from the
SUGAR in the cigarettes. Now, when do you hear the media wailing about the
harmful effects of sugar? Not very often. Is tobacco  actually a
"sugarscreen?".....

 A paleo person if he had any tobacco at all would have smoked it naturally
dried of course.
