My understanding is different . According to Dey Labs the new manufacturers of the Epi-pen, the reason the Epi EZ pens (both regular and junior) were volunteerly recalled was because certain lot numbers started started to prematurely go off. They were concerned because all the epi-pen EZ may do the same as that lot, since they haven't figured out what was triggering them to go off. I spoke awhile back to Center Labs (the old manufacturer of Epi-pens) regional sales rep (who now works for Dey) who said that the Epi EZ were designed BECAUSE so many people got the ends confussed and were injecting themselves. Inside its the same needle and meds. I heard a rumor that one was less painful than the other, but he said the needles are the same. One other tidbit, I knew about the volunteer recall before our pharmacist or allergist because I get FAN's alert's e-mailed to me. Follow directions at their site (you don't have to be a FAN member to get the alerts) http://www.foodallergy.org/ Paula, Mark wrote : Less so for the EpiPen Jrs than for the now-recalled EpiPen EZ Jrs. That's why they were recalled. Not because it's particularly dangerous to accidentally shoot the air or someone else's finger, but because the does is spent on a person who doesn't need it, while the patient in real, grave need goes untreated.
