<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> In a post on Tue, 25 Nov 1997, Lane Wyatt stated, "The "starch" in synthroid is made from a corn source if this product is manufactured in the U.S. The manufacturer would be breaking the law if they used any other form of starch." I would suggest that the conclusion of lawbreaking for using a gluten containing starch in a medication made in the U.S. is not correct. According to a presentation made at the American Celiac Society Dietary Support Coalition conference in New Orleans on November 1, 1997, Nancy Patin Falini, M.A., R.D., when referring to gluten in hidden ingredients, stated, "The latter two (maltodextrin and starch) when listed on FOOD sold in the USA must be gluten free, however in the case of supplements and medication they may be derived from a gluten source." I would be happy to provide a copy of her paper, including references, to anyone who wishes it. Carolyn Sullivan e-mail [log in to unmask]
