<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> About a week ago I queried the group to see if anyone got any kind of reaction to Novocaine. Accordingly, here is an abbreviated summary of the responses: 1. One respondent indicated that she also got a severe reaction, and recommended using Citanest in lieu of novocaine. 2. Another respondent thought that Novocain is broken down into Paba in the body and that perhaps the reaction was caused by Paba . 3. One individual mentioned that the chemical dabbed on the gum prior to the injection, Carbocain, (my interpretation) could be the cause. 4.It was thought that perhaps stress played a role, but was not sure about novocaine. 5. Another respondent thought that it was the ephenephrine. (A constituent of novocaine?) 6. Another person mentioned that she got a strange and "out of it" feeling from novocaine. 7. One person said that she went into shock and lost her eyesight temporarily. 8. Finally, one individual suggested that there is something else in novocaine which could cause a reaction. 9. Another person suggested that the reaction might have come from pain medications, or antibiotics, after administration of novocaine ( although this was not true in my case).
