<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> Hi! I am newly returned to the list with a real stumper. Help?! Before a person who has been GF goes for a biopsy, gluten is consumed for the sole purpose of damaging the intestinal villi. If not enough is consumed, or if it is consumed for too short an interval, there is a risk of the villi being "too healthy" and a false negative biopsy. Along the same lines, I understand that certain supplements, including zinc, vitamins A and E, and aloe vera, among others, can be used to help heal and encourage regrowth of damaged epithelial (skin) and endothelial (gut) tissue. My question is, if such supplements are used, could their good effects result in enough regrowth of villi to cause a false negative biopsy? And if they have been used, what time period should elapse after they are discontinued, prior to biopsy? Any opinions or hunches are welcome, but if you have sources I could refer to, that would be even better. Thanks. -Jenise in Pittsburgh, PA, USA
