David Branski, M.D., Margot Shine, M.D., and Shaare Zedek Medical Center, Jerusalem 91031, Israel reports their belief that allowing oats in the diet is premature. They sited the short duration of the study and the increased risk of cancer related through small intake of gluten (Holmes et al). It does appear that the initial study is being continued for an additonal five years. The listowners have previously collected lengthy reports about oats from the professionals on the cel-pro discussion group. While there was not unanimous agreement, most of the pros recommended waiting until further research is done before adding oats to the celiac Diet.
