<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> >Even worse, 75% of all celiacs, *once they get their diagnosis* are given >*no* instruction on the gluten-free diet. It took 2 years, 2 family doctors, and 2 dermatologists to diagnose my DH (dermatitus herpetiformis). I was refered to a nutritionist for consultation on the GF diet after being diagnosed with DH . She had absolutely zero information about gluten and had no idea which foods to avoid. I declined her invitation to schedule another appointment so she could research the issue. I can read, too, so I did the research myself. While it is easy to question the competence of particular doctors, it is clearly a mistake to question the motives of the entire medical community. Unfortunately, infusing new information into any large community of people takes time and persistance regardless of the "truth" or importance of the information, most people naturally resist new ideas and cling to old paradigms. I hope the ideas, information, and support provided by this forum will encourage all of us to CHALLENGE the advice our doctors offer in a constructive way, i.e. by discussing alternatives and asking questions.
