It sounds like they are looking more for culture, which is great!  With Strides for Africa, I have gone into several schools to give talks on the water issues in rural Africa.  I could talk about the water situation in Africa.  I have a presentation ready and props to go with it.

Our global students program for Strides for Africa has involved getting schools to learn about the water issue, then if they are up to the challenge, actively take on the fundraising challenge to put a water well in rural Africa.

Happy to talk more to the lead teacher about this if you’d like or just give a presentation on the challenge of the water issue in rural Africa to support the AAM response to this inquiry.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Aliou –

Not sure you’ve gotten the number you are looking for. If not you can count me. Friday the 2nd is best for me. Would like to know how long this will take. Is it scheduled for a whole day or just a halve day.

Thank you

Samba

Hello,

We have received a request from Edgerton middle school to participate in their Africa Unit session. In the email below, they are looking for someone in the week of October 28th preferably.

I am looking for volunteers (Maybe 3 ) to attend the school, and this would be another way to promote Africa Community Center with the city as we do get request like this from time to time.

PLEASE RESPOND BY WEDNESDAY Oct 25 with a date a time, if you are able to attend.

Thank you,

Hello again,

Ideally, we'd love to host someone the week of October 28th (I know that's super soon!) because that's the last week of our Africa unit, however, a time soon after that would be great as well. We can either do 5 small group presentations or one large group (180 kids) - whichever you'd prefer.

Hi Heather,

Thank you for getting back to me and having your page really help in knowing topic to be discuss. Do you have a window in which you would like to have someone to your school? Date and maybe time might be helpful as most of potential speakers work during the day. TO know date and time, we can plan head and send someone to Edgerton.

Thank you for reaching out to us and you are right meeting and talking with one another does help to have open mind.

Thank you,

Hello again,

I'm sorry for the delay - the beginning of the year got a little crazy here. We would still love to have someone speak to our students about the cultures of Sub-Saharan Africa. To give you an idea of some topics we have covered so far, here is the working document where we add notes in Social Studies.

In Science, she has been teaching about resources, land use and the effects of humans on the environment.

We don't have anything specific we'd want a speaker to come and share, it's really more about meeting and interacting with diverse people throughout the year. Edgerton is not a very diverse area - so I've found that simply MEETING and TALKING to people from all walks of life, really helps our students open their minds.

Hi Heather,

Thank you for reaching out to the African Association of Madison. Do you have a specific topic or area that you want the presenter(s) to be talking about. If we have talking points for instance, we should be able to find knowledgeable or subject matter individual in our community.

Thank you

Hello! I teach Cultural Geography to 6th graders in Edgerton, WI (half an hr south of Madison). I have been trying to increase the interactions my students have with culturally diverse people to help them become more aware and tolerant of diversity. Last year I was able to bring a henan artist and two Sikh UW students to our school during our studies of Southbound Asia. This October, we will begin our unit on Sub-Saharan Africa and I am looking for suggestions of appropriate presenters or workshop facilitators to contact. Thank you so much for your assistance and I look forward to hearing from you! HL
